Antidepressants and Weight

2:56 PM

For the past 2 months I've been taking Ciprelax for my depression, I started at 10mg and recently moved up to 20mg. I have found it has helped some what. I still get depressed from time to time as well as angry, but it has helped. Also in the past 2 months I've completely changed my diet! I'm eating clean now, fresh greens, fruits, veggie. No more processed garbage! Also I go to the gym 3-5 times a week, taking classes at Goodlife! it's been great! However, I've noticed I really haven't lost that must weight (5 pounds max) in the 2 months. Way less than I should have. I haven't been cheating, I don't skip the gym so why am I not losing weight? I lost 20 pounds a couple years ago with no major problems, the weight came off fairly easy after starting the gym and eating healthier so what's wrong with me now? I've done my research and now I'm thinking its the Ciprelax stopping me from losing weight. I thought I got off easy as it didn't cause any weight gain when I started it, but I came across a lot of forms that have said antidepressants came cause it to be much harder to lose weight. After lots of researching and thinking I've decided I want to quit my meds! COLD TURKEY. Yes I said cold turkey! I know it's not wise and I should cut back slowly, but I've ran out of pills and don't want to have to buy more just to wein myself off them. I've read all the horror stories of withdrawal I'm about to go through, but I'm ready!! I bought 1,000mg of B-12 as I heard it helps with depression and 300mg of St. John's Wort so I'm hoping those help to make it not as bad to come off. I think I'm making the right choice. I quit my birth control pill a couple months back after being on it 2 years because I really didn't want the chemicals in my body so I think I'm making the right choice in quitting Ciprelx as well. I'm defiantly going to keep updating to let you know how it's going!! -Chels xox
